City Tacos is not your average taqueria. In fact, it’s not average at all. Gerry, founder of City Tacos, created a masterpiece when he founded City Tacos. He brought a modern, gourmet culinary twist to your average taqueria taco. And I must say, the City Tacos team always does a great job.

Located in the heart of North Park, San Diego, City Tacos is a humble little spot. As stated on their website, “City Tacos is an enchanting neighborhood Taquería located in the heart of San Diego, North Park. Inspired by recipes passed down through generations, and a passion for quality cuisine that is true to Mexican traditions, yet paired with a dash of Southern California flavor.”

Basically, I can’t eat just one. More often than not, I can’t just eat two, or even three, and usually make it to four. After that, I still want to eat. My mind is telling my yes, but my body is telling me no! If that’s not enough convincing… I don’t know what is!

My friends and I always do some damage here. Here’s a list of *SOME* of my favorite tacos and what they have to offer:

  1. Borrego – Pulled lamb with wild mushrooms, Cotija cheese, tomato, cilantro and fried leeks in a chipotle cream sauce on a house-made corn tortilla.
This is my hands down, favorite taco here. The flavors are complimentary, they’re savory. Honestly, I’ll scarf this down in less than three bites. No shame.
  2. Puerco Agri Dulce – Tender Pork Tenderloin with a spicy sweet & sour demi glaze, avocado pulp, diced Serrano, red onion, cilantro and fried rice noodles on a house-made flour tortilla.
This is my hands down, second favorite taco here. With a contrasting sweet and sour flavors upon juicy morsels of pork, it’ll knock you out of the park. It’s my boyfriends favorite taco, it’s some of my best friends favorite tacos. Let’s just say, it gets around. In the best way possible.
  3. Portobello Con Vegetables – Grilled portobello mushroom with caramelized pineapple over melted Oaxaca cheese on a homemade corn tortilla.
This taco is a refreshing bite of heaven. Now, I love meat. This taco doesn’t have any. The savory mushroom paired with creamy, melty Oaxaca cheese just really does it for more. Plus… It’s vegetables. A vegetable taco is healthy, right?

In all truth, the list goes on and on. I have yet to try a taco at City Tacos that I haven’t liked. What are your favorite City Tacos tacos?
