Diaries of an Herbalism Student – Weeks 2-5

benefits-of-herbalism

Ah! How did we get here?! Time has truly flown by and I’ve learned endless amounts of knowledge in a short three weeks! My mind is going a million miles a minute as I type this because so much has happened, from creating beauty creams, infusions, decoctions, tinctures – oh my!

Take a deep breath. Slow down. Recap  – What have I learned thus far?

With having completed just over a month of immersion into the studies of herbal healing, I have felt immense benefits. I feel at this point, I have expanded my world to a plethora of beautiful plants and herbs that have given me so many gifts thus far. My eyes have been open to a new community of powerful individuals who possess great knowledge and healing power – and I am learning, giving, and receiving great holistic wealth from all of them.

What Has Herbalism Done for Me?

What’s been most significant for me as of now? The effect herbs have taken on my immune system. From childhood to just recently, I’ve been one who always gets sick easily and often. I have constant allergies, my immune system is poor, and just standing next to someone with a cold would be my biggest downfall. However, with herbal applications, I’ve seen physical changes in the way my body has been reacting to illness being introduced to my body.

I’ve been using echinacea (within reason), lemon balm, peppermint, comfrey, cayenne, dandelion root, rose hips, and so many other beautifully antiviral, protecting, cleansing, and heat inducing herbs that have allowed me to stay sick free since I’ve begun classes in mid-January. Is my mind blown? Yes! Have I started to feel sick? Absolutely. But have I gotten sick? Not once.

*knocks on wood*

I’ve only gotten my feet wet, and can’t wait to dive further into the realm of the plants and their powerful impact on life itself. My current goal? To make a full transition from Western (allopathic, yuck!) Medicine, to a medicine cabinet full of herbs and creations.
